These are some of the mob of kangaroos in the vineyards at the rural skills campus. (We have a viticulture section and the district of Orange has large areas of vineyards.) There seem to be maybe 20-30 kangaroos in the mob.
I have only been teaching for 2 years now. I am not sure that I have yet developed 'an approach'. We are lucky that the students, who are 17-18 years old, are generally good students and want to be here because they are genuinely interested in animals. The nature of the subject - animal studies - is inherently interesting and fun. Although we also spend lots of time in routine class work - powerpoints and assignments - we also try to use the many excellent resources that TAFE has for the vet nursing students, and to take excursions at least once a year.

Hi again Sunita!
ReplyDeleteI don't really understand if the kangaroos causes problems.
Do they?
In that case what problems?
I totally agree that you have a subject that really attracts young people (I know that from my old school where husbandry attracts most students).
Concerning teaching and developing an approach I have some questions.
Do you use evaluations?
Do you design the evaluations yourself?
I think they can be a helpful tool....
It was really nice to read your blog and learn more about Animal Care in Australia!

Hello Sunita! I agree with Margareta. It is a blog with wonderful pictures. Thank you for participating.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting to see I love kangaroos as well as vine! Do you also harvest and make vine on your own at the school. Can you test vine at school and how old do you have to be in Australia to taste vine. Does the Kangaroo any harm to the vineyards, don't you need to protect the vineyards?
ReplyDeleteWow! As exciting with kangarooos! There is no animal we have in Sweden.Staying judgment in the vineyards or in the area where you have a vineyards? Does not quite understand what you meant.
ReplyDeleteSincerely Susanne
What is the goal for your students? Working in zoos? Pet stores? Veterinary clinics? My student are working towards at least one of these occupation, other than maybe keep studying at university after finishing here.
