A repetitive task!

Students in a third year gardening class are pruning willows. It’s done in early spring every year.

  1. Hello Froken

Do you do a lot of Occupational Health and Safety work with students before they are able to do this type of work? If so, how do you teach this area?

    1. Yes, Occupational Health and Safety work is part of the mandatory introductory course. It was already done when I arrived at the school to do my internship. I'm sorry to say that I really don't know how this was taught.

  2. Do you use chainsaw when you pruning large branches on the trees and what kind of safety gear do you use when you work high up above the ground?

  3. To be honest I don't know if the pupils in the Natural Resource Use Program use the chainsaw, because I was just visiting the school a couple of weeks for my VPU. When they are pruning willows the branches are not thicker than my little finger.

The adults studying to become tree workers are working with chainsaws and are climbing the trees with safety lines.
